The Josh Barber Memorial Scholarship

The Friends of Fernandina Airport has established a scholarship for Josh Barber who was a 16 year old student at Fernandina Beach High School. Josh passed away in November 2020 from Loey-Dietz Syndrome, a severe connective tissue disorder. To honor Josh's life and fighting spirit, the Josh Barber Memorial Scholarship will provide a $1000 annual scholarship to a senior FBHS student participating in the Aviation Technology Program. Josh loved aviation and was enrolled in the FBHS Aviation Technology Program. Despite his physical limitations, in 2017 he attended the National Flight Academy Camp through a scholarship provided by Friends of Fernandina Aviation. His goal was to study aeronautical engineering and become a pilot. Josh did not let his disability diminish his zeal for pursuing his aviation interests.
